GQ (Generation Queer) 13-20 year-olds

What is this group?

Generation Queer (GQ) is Rainbow Youths social-support group for under 18 years, who identify as queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, takataapui, fa’afafine, questioning or curious. GQ is a place where young people can come together to meet others like themselves, chat about life, school and just relax.

Like all Rainbow Youth Groups, GQ is totally drug, smoke and alcohol free.

Who goes to it?

GQ usually has between 20 and 30 young people at each group ranging in age from 13 to 18. Most people who come are at high school, but some are starting uni or working. We have people coming along from all parts of Auckland, from as far south as Manukau, up to as far north as Orewa.

When we meet

Fortnightly on Fridays, 6pm till 8.30pm. Coming along once doesn’t commit you to anything; some people come to every meeting and some come when they can - it doesn't matter. You're always welcome.

Where do we meet?

At the Rainbow Youth Centre, 281 Karangahape Rd, Auckland (next to Heroes Comics and the Newton Pharmacy).

Facilitator

Daniel and Pia are the current facilitators for this group. If you’re keen to come along, get in touch and we can sort you out. You can email usor call and leave a message on the office phone, (09) 376 4155.

What we mean when we say queer

A reclaimed word that represents sexuality and gender diversity. We use it to encompass lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, fa'afafine, and takataapui identities, as well as everyone in between and not sure. This word is used by many people, but it is also appreciated that it is not the preferred term for everybody.
